So today we decided to go and cut down our own Christmas tree - a first for this family of 4 (not counting the dog and cat).
So we geared up in this 29 degree weather (literally) - double pants for the kids, hats, mittens, winter coats and dos shirts. We arrived at the "cut your own tree 120+ acre lot" and were told the tractor which takes us to the field is out there and will be back in about 10-15 minutes to wait in the car. Also were advised to not take Matteo and Chloe due to the cold. Well heck we are out walking daily (yes still Adel) and no silly brisk weather is going to keep us locked in the truck....so we walked about a mile to the tree and after some searching, Mommy and Daddy said at the same time, there she is:
Daddy indeed cut the tree himself -

And the proceeded to carry it. He said he could carry it all the way back to the stand where out truck was waiting for us - but I said lets leave it here and walk back.
And then it passed our tree and took us back :-) So Mommy and Chloe May went back to the truck from some warmth and Jules and Matteo took another tractor ride to get the tree - and 30 minutes later we were all back in the truck on our way home with our new found tree - CHRISTMAS TREE as we refer to her :-) BTW, Matteo is one hardy boy - he was out in the cold for (from start to finish) 2 hours! I kid you not :-) Though when he got in the truck he said his feet were cold.....brrrr....and as far as experiences goes - this was a great experience - right up there with birth, first step and watching the first time Matteo ride his bike by himself sans training wheels. I mean trekking through the open fields, carrying our kids, to get a tree, cutting it, freezing - feeling ALIVE - this is what the holidays are about - F A M I L Y - patience, giving of your time. Our tree will win no awards - but how can one measure the joy it has brought this Mommy of 2? :-) Thanks for reading. Scroll down to see what happened when we got home.
